Connor conducts the premiere of Acceptance, his work for flute quintet.

Acceptance

• written for Flute Quintet; 6’ 30”

Piccolo / C Flute 1-3 / Bass Flute

(doublings for flute choir are welcome!)

( 2019, rev. 2021 )

Program Note

Acceptance combines five flutes to paint an emotional state of lament and nostalgia for a time now past. There are two major sections which contrast in style from neo-Baroque to a mix of [diatonic] contemporary and neo-Romantic writing, in order to create a narrative of looking back at what was once familiar with increased anguish and dissonance. The work ends with the fugue-like music of the beginning; a snap back to a realistic view of an old memory with live, breathing emotions of the present, yet filled with acceptance for the memory’s ever-true unpleasant conclusion.
