Iter Mentis translates to “A Journey of the Mind.” The five movements spell out Saros, an 18 year cycle in astronomy which predicts the eclipses of the sun and moon. The journey of Iter Mentis introduces an eclipse which is first met with curiosity, and then with outrage as darkness consumes the world. The eclipse ends and order is restored until the opening music begins again to continue the perpetual cycle. It is possible to interpret this piece in the context of a romantic relationship where a fight between two lovers breaks out to eventually and temporarily quell. From either viewpoint this journey engages the mind: curiosity or passion. Either programmatic interpretation aims to paint a picture that illustrates the growing levels of intensity found within the music.
