New Music @ Augie (2024)
February 16 and 17, 2024 in Sioux Falls, SD
Hosted at Augustana University’s Hamre Recital Hall, the New Music @ Augie (2024) was a two-concert mini-series focused around showcasing contemporary music. With the exception of one composer, all of the composers featured were living. This offered a unique opportunity for both local performers and audiences.
(#1) The Labyrinth Walk
February 16, 2024 at 7:30 PM
The first concert of the 2024 New Music @ Augie was built around the concept of a spiritual labyrinth, itself inspired by the work The Labyrinth of Light by Nathan Daughtrey (included on the program). The program was divided into the three sections of such a meditative journey: Purgation, Illumination, and Union.
(#2) The Call to Come Home
February 17, 2024 at 7:30 PM
The second concert of the 2024 New Music @ Augie was built around the concept of the work The Feeling of Coming Home by Victor LaBozzetta III (included on the program). The works follow a loose narrative of an unnamed narrator experiencing something in their life which compels them to return home. Different interpretations of what (or who) home is were explored through both acoustic and electroacoustic works.
