Overcast
• written for Solo Bass Flute; 6’ 00”
( 2018, rev. 2022 )
* work includes singing and playing
Program Note
Overcast takes inspiration from foggy skies over various lakes the composer has encountered in life. One such lake is pictured with water occasionally being whipped up by the wind on an overcast autumn morning. The dreary colors of this scene are imitated with the choice of the bass flute’s timbre, a combination of flute tone and singing, and a lamenting melody which keeps seeping into the soundscape.
