Play Pretend
• written for Clarinet, Violin, and Viola; 3' 00"
( 2024 )

Play Pretend is a whimsical and dramatic realization of childhood wonder. As if two friends are "playing pretend," this work alternates between modes and intensities of imagination. The work starts off somewhat elegantly before a raucous storm sets over the scene. Life is a dance, and we learn the steps when we are young: try not to forget how to dance!

Note: This work was written for a student ensemble and aims to create a fun and rhythmic journey with a few musical decorations to add color and complexity.
