Cello Extremes

Carolina Rodriguez de Armas demonstrates bowing below the bridge on the cello.
Documented in Summer 2024 with cellist Carolina Rodriguez de Armas, this collaboration explored extended techniques and different sounds in a non-performance setting. Among these were natural harmonics (with standard and nonstandard string lengths), subharmonics, bowing sub ponticello, and more.

Mallet Percussion Harmonics

Connor demonstrating an artificial harmonic played on vibraphone.
It is possible to make overtones audibly speak from instruments such as the marimba, xylophone, and others. This documentation, started in 2024, has been prepared as a definitive resource for composers looking for additional sounds to explore in their work. Techniques, limitations, and further research are available for perusal and study.
