Spring Daydreams found inspiration from a few different sources, including several locations in South Dakota and Sebago Lake in Maine, and elements of music by Debussy and Strauss. This work, for a smaller orchestra, sets a scene in nature with bird calls and bubbling brooks with oboe and string sounds, before moving into scenes of a long day at work. There is an oscillation between the different moments in that work day, before we are pulled back to the natural world. The linearity and relationship between these moments is left to the listener to decide. Ultimately, the composer found himself daydreaming quite a bit while living in the Midwest, which resulted in this work.
