Aftermath
• written for Tenor and Piano; 5' 00"

Aftermath combines two different poems, After the Rain by Thomas Aldrich Bailey and Two Worlds by Edgar Fawcett, in order to create an experimental narrative. A narrator has taken part in a war and seen the destructive effects which war wreaks. However, in the sunshine after a symbolic downpour, the narrator sees that the church in town has remained standing while the rest of town is in rubble. There is hope for the world: systems of ideology – particularly those with messages of peace – will always resound and remain stable despite the existence of war and conflict.
After the Rain by Thomas Aldrich Bailey and Two Worlds by Edgar Fawcett are in the Public Domain.
