Frames
• written for Solo Heckelphone; 8' 00"
( 2023 )

This short collection of five pieces for heckelphone. Each of the five pieces has either a slightly different mood or a different technical focus for the player. The title Frames refers to both the noun "frame," something which holds an object such as a photograph or a doorway, and the verb "to frame," specifically in the sense to create a sense of understanding or familiarity with something.

These five pieces may be programmatically interpretted (or not) in different ways, but ultimately have different characteristics that may inform imagined-graphic or experienced-sound ideas. Additionally, the score itself acts as a frame, as a way to channel and contain a specific set of compositional ideas for the heckelphone itself.
