Let's Look at the Stars creates an atmospheric sound world with the shimmer of a bowed glockenspiel and the many sound colors of the piano. The effect of outer space is imitated with sustained harmonies, often dyads of perfect fifths or octaves, and flickers of "starry" short motives in eighth notes. The tonality floats from an undefined key into a bright B major, to reflect the composer's perceived brightness of stars, before transitioning again to a tonal plain of wonder and instability.
