Lion
• written for Solo Tuba; 3' 00"+
Lion is written to be freely interpreted by a solo tubist to recreate a scene of a lion hunting a gazelle. Various effects ranging from air sounds, flutter tongue, extreme range considerations, percussive hits to the bell and mouthpiece, and vowel modifications are employed to create a more vivid illustration of a gruesome scene. The clash between the lion and gazelle is illustrated very chaotically, leaving the player to rely on intuition to recreate the fight. No death is the same!
Richard Sargent performs Connor's solo on tuba.
Richard Sargent performs the premiere of Lion for Connor's concert "Stories We Tell."
