Meadow Dance employs several motives and themes repeatedly in order to recreate the sensation of motion, compared to a light breeze moving through a grassy meadow. Written in a diatonic musical language, this music is meant to relax the listener into imaging themselves dancing in nature, completely free. A motive of a bouncy, repeated note first heard in the bassoon aims to drive energy into the music, imitating elements of a march. The mood set offers the idea that optimism and a breath of fresh air are necessities in this modern industrial society.
