The Beast in the Cave brings to life the short story of the same name by H.P. Lovecraft, which introduces a narrator that becomes separated from a guided tour of a cavern. The narrator finds himself in the darkness face to face with an unimaginable creature. In order to save himself, the narrator throws rocks at the beast and escapes. The guide reunites with the narrator, and having heard the story, the guide leads the narrator to find the remains of the dead beast... a human man. This story is realized through extended technique and deliberate choices of musical color.
