where words fail...
• written for Solo (Extended) Glockenspiel; 6' 00"
• written for Solo (Extended) Glockenspiel; 6' 00"
This work was written in memory of the mother of a dear friend who passed away in early 2024. The title, where words fail... was borrowed from the concert that included the premiere of this work, which used the same title for the overall event. "Where Words Fail" references a quote by Hans Christian Andersen, emphasizing how in some scenarios the use of music as language may sometimes more effectively communicate the complex feelings one may have to express.
Originally composed for a glockenspiel and an extended register piccolo glockenspiel, where words fail... uses the sound of high-register bowed metal to create melancholic, shimmering sounds to illustrate the beauty of saying goodbye one last time.
This work is dedicated to Sarah.
