My first international flight went pretty well! It was fun to be checked through security as first-class, but our seats were not first class. I was able to play some Battleship on the screen in front of me as we took off, and then I had a sleepy start watching the movie Arrival. I was able to reach the half-way point before time for dinner. A chicken dinner including some mashed potatoes and a cold piece of shrimp was just what I needed. Post-dinner I finished the film and was absolutely stunned. I was rather sleepy and disinterested during the first hour, but the slow exposition was absolutely necessary. I rewatched the final sequence of La La Land on my friend's screen next to me (now for the third time), cried a little bit, then slept.
An hour of horrible rest transitioned into some more games and then Jonas Kauffman: An Evening of Puccini! I wish I found this video sooner; it's a televised concert of just Puccini's music, with the first 20 minutes presenting a resounding prelude and aria I'd love to learn someday when I'm older. While watching the timer for our arrival, breakfast was served: I simply had some water and a blueberry muffin. I wish I could have finished the Kauffman/Puccini program, but that's alright: the plane landed! Departure: (NY) 5:30 PM Arrival: (Madrid) 6:15 AM Time to adjust to a six hour's time difference! The real adventure begins!

Hi everyone, this is my first blog post for my upcoming trip to Spain! This trip is mostly sponsored by various donors to Wagner College and donations made at various concerts arranged by our Music Department. My ability to go to Spain is also indebted to many individuals who either donated to my GoFundMe campaign, or instead spread the word and offered their best support. The original pricetag that the students were given: $1500. However, the price was lowered to $500 due to more sponsor donations, and I had already raised $500 with GoFundMe. Thank you to those who contributed!
The Wagner College Choir has historically embarked on many incredible performance tours; you can read about the history of our choir in this story on Wagner's website. The choir traveled to Germany and Austria in 2013, one semester before I started college, and this was the first international performance tour the choir did since 1990. Four years later, in the spring of 2017, I get to conclude my senior year at Wagner College by singing with some incredible friends and musicians during my first trip outside of the United States. During the trip, I will be posting here in order to document it and share a few moments and memories with friends and family back home. We leave today, on March 9th and return on March 19th. Stay tuned for some very exciting posts; I can't wait! -Connor PS: I'm sorry that the links on this blog page are an unreadable yellow, if I can fix it during the trip I will! There won't be many links moving forward anyway, though. |
